Currently, the local health clinic in Mlangarini has received no personal protective equipment (PPE), soap or sanitizers from the Tanzanian government. This is insufficient, as no healthcare worker has the protective equipment required to safely interact with or treat patients. We are raising money so that we can purchase proper protective equipment in Tanzania and donate it to the Mlangarini health dispensary, as well as other rural health clinics in the surrounding area.

Even though the World Health Organization (WHO) is urging countries to improve efforts to contain the disease and protect health care workers, the Tanzanian government has not provided PPE to rural health clinics. The government has stopped reporting COVID-19 cases and deaths since April 29th (New York Times), but our trusted friends in Tanzania have communicated the severity and pervasiveness of the virus in their own communities. Furthermore, the WHO has expressed concerns about the Tanzanian government’s response to COVID-19.

If you are able, please consider supporting our efforts to respond to the COVID-19 crisis in Tanzania.
